Engineering, Biology, Health in Lorraine
- Core Facility, Technology, Research, Training, Services, Quality ApproachThe mixed service unit (UMS) 2008 / US40 Engineering, Biology, Health in Lorraine (IBSLor) was created on 01 January 2018. It is composed of a CNRS unit (UMR7365 IMoPA) and two INSERM units (U1116 DCAC and U1256 NGERE) belonging to the Pole Biologie Médecine Santé (BMS) of the University of Lorraine. It follows the Féderation de Recherche 3209 Molecular Cellular and Therapeutic Bioengineering (BMCT) (CNRS-UL) (2009-2017) and has 4 own staff and staff made available by the constituent units. The UMS has 3 supervisory bodies: the University of Lorraine and the CNRS which contribute to its operational budget, and the INSERM.
The UMS2008 has two main goals:- Provide technological and / or technical support to scientific, academic and industrial projects
- Ensure the coordinated access of heavy structural equipments grouped in a core facility to users
President
The Strategic Orientation Council is chaired by the Director of the UMS2008 IBSLor.
Missions
The Strategic Orientation Council defines and advises on the major strategic, political and technical orientations of the UMS2008 IBSLor:
- Advises on the overall coherence of its activities and on the priorities to be given to the different actions and projects.
- Definition and monitoring of the scientific strategy, organization of scientific activities.
- Prospective vision of the unit's activities: Place for collective reflection on rising issues.
- Support for the dissemination of its activities: Reaching out to the various bodies represented.
It meets at least once a year, convened by its president.
Composition
- Management of UMS2008 IBSLor: Director, Co-Director and Core-Facility Coordination.
- Director of the BMS Pole of the University of Lorraine.
- Directors of the three constituent units.
- By invitation: Representatives of the supervisory bodies and unit staff.
President
The Core-facilities Management Council is chaired by the Director of the UMS2008 IBSLor and the Core-Facility Coordination.
Missions
The mission of the Core-facilities Management Council is to help structure and guide the unit's activities.
- Give an opinion on the unit's draft operating and investment budgets.
- To exchange views on current and future projects and internal/external collaboration.
- Review the annual programme of activities of each core-facility.
The objective is to take decisions on strategic orientations of common interest on a collegial basis.

- Scientific and/or technical managers of the facilities.
- By invitation: Director of the Pole BMS of the University of Lorraine, directors of the constituent units and unit staff.
In order to better meet the needs and expectations of our users, the UMS2008 IBSLor and its 6 technology core facilities are engaged in a quality approach since 01 January 2018 to obtain ISO9001:2015 certification in 2020.
We are accompanied in our approach by Laurent Perilhon (DAPEQ, UL).
The core facilities of the UMS2008 IBSLor are located at Biopôle (Building 15) and in buildings C (Building 8) and D (Building 12) on the Brabois-Santé campus of the University of Lorraine in Nancy.
The Biopôle hosts on the ground level the core facilities of:
- Biophysics and Structural Biology (B2S)
- Cytometry (Cell sorter equipment)
- Epitranscriptomics & Sequencing (EpiRNA-Seq)
- Imaging (PTIBC)
- Proteomics
Building C hosts the Functional Genomics facility.
Building D hosts the second part of the Cytometry facility (flow cytometer equipment).
